The Kenya High Commissioner giving his speech,

Please allow me to
 take this
opportunity to
officially welcome
 you and your
accompanying
delegation, to the
Kenya High
 Commission,
London.

We are indeed most delighted that you were able to find time out of your busy schedule, to come and personally preside over our today’s ceremony to inaugurate London as a National Identity Cards Issuing Office. Your presence here today, is a clear testimony of the importance that your Ministry attaches to the ceremony that you are presiding over here today! We thank you very much for that Hon. Minister.

As you are aware, the U.K. is a destination of choice for many Kenyans due to the long standing friendly relations which exists between Kenya and UK, and also the deep rooted historical ties, common language, business ties and work opportunities etc.,

The UK also holds a fairly sizeable concentration of Kenyan Diaspora and who require National Identity Cards, bearing in mind that it is required for virtually every transaction in Kenya. Many Kenyans living abroad have faced difficulties in the past, as they try to purchase land, houses, open bank accounts - to mention but a few examples because they don’t have National Identity Cards!

This is a loss to the individual and the commulative effect of this is, a loss to our country as it holds back investment money which is readily available from diaspora investors.

Opening London as a Registration Office for processing of National Identity Cards, is, therefore, indeed a milestone in our Consular Service Delivery.

In future, too, other core services provided by your Ministry such as the issue of Birth Certificates, could be brought closer to the Kenyan Diaspora here in London too!

Honourable Minister,

It is now my greatest pleasure and duty, to invite you to address Kenyans here in London, and also to officially commission this London Mission as a Registration Office for purposes of processing National Identity Cards.

Thank you Hon. Minister

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — A district commissioner says a bomb that exploded in a refugee camp in northern Kenya narrowly missed a car carrying a senior police officer.

Albert Kimathi says no one was injured in Tuesday's blast in Dadaab refugee camp. It is the second explosion there in as many days and the fifth bomb to be planted in Dadaab in two months. Three police officers in Dadaab have been killed.

The attacks have severely curtailed the movements of aid workers, meaning many refugees cannot access important services.

Aid workers rely on Kenyan police for escorts after Somali gunmen kidnapped a Kenyan and two Spanish aid workers from Dadaab.

Kenya has had more than a dozen bomb and grenade attacks since sending troops across the Somali border in October.
